This is the gasket that seals the oil pan to the bottom of the automatic gearbox on Mercedes-Benz cars with the 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic, gearbox code 722.9. It's part number A2202710380, which replaces the older number A2202710180. The gasket stops transmission fluid leaking out where the pan bolts to the gearbox. Over time it hardens and shrinks from the heat, and fluid starts to seep out. Look for red or brown oily drips under the middle of the car, or a damp, oily film around the edge of the gearbox pan. Don't ignore it: if the fluid level drops too low, the gearbox can start shifting harshly, slipping or going into limp mode, and repairing a 7G-Tronic is expensive. Always fit a new gasket whenever the pan comes off for a gearbox service. Reusing the old one is the most common reason pans leak after a fluid change. Drain the fluid, remove the pan, clean both sealing faces completely, fit the new gasket dry with no sealant, and tighten the pan bolts evenly to the specified torque. Then refill with Mercedes-approved transmission fluid and check the level at the correct temperature, which these gearboxes need a diagnostic tool for.
