This is an airbag impact sensor, also called a crash sensor, for Mercedes-Benz. It detects a collision in the first few milliseconds and tells the airbag control unit when to fire the airbags. If the sensor is faulty or missing, the airbags may not deploy when you need them. A failed sensor usually shows up as the SRS or airbag warning light staying on, and a diagnostic scan shows a crash sensor fault. It's a common problem on Mercedes that have been in a minor accident or had body or door repairs, and on imported cars where a sensor was damaged or left unplugged. Don't ignore an airbag light; while it's on, the system may not protect you properly. This sensor is part number A1729056000 (Siemens/Continental 5WK44192). It plugs straight into the factory connector and bolts into the original mounting point. Have a qualified mechanic fit it. Airbag systems can be dangerous to work on. The battery must be disconnected before the sensor is replaced, and the stored fault code needs clearing with a diagnostic tool afterwards. If the airbag light comes back, have the system scanned again. Not sure it fits your car? Send us your VIN on WhatsApp and we'll confirm before you buy.
