The Mercedes-Benz A0009829608 (000 982 96 08) is a 12V AGM auxiliary battery, rated about 12Ah and 200A. It is a small backup battery that supports the car’s electronics, keeps the vehicle’s power supply stable and covers the system during engine starts and stop-start cycles. It does not replace the main starter battery. AGM (absorbent glass mat) construction means it is sealed and maintenance-free. There is no topping up and no venting to worry about, and it handles the repeated small charge and discharge cycles this job involves. When this battery fails, the car usually tells you. The typical signs are an “auxiliary battery malfunction” message on the dash, electrical functions cutting out while driving, and in some cars a prompt to stop and leave the engine running in P. If you see these, the auxiliary battery is the first thing to test. A weak one can also cause confusing electrical faults that look unrelated. It is a direct replacement for the original. Use an AGM unit of the same type, since a standard flooded battery isn’t suitable for this position. Fitment note: The auxiliary battery is a different part from the main battery.
