The Mercedes-Benz A2740940004 (also written 274 094 00 04) is an oval engine air filter element designed for cars with the M274 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. It sits in the airbox and stops dust, sand and other debris from reaching the engine, so only clean air gets to the turbo and combustion chamber. Over time the filter clogs, which restricts airflow. A blocked element can lead to sluggish acceleration, higher fuel consumption and a rougher idle, so replacing it at each service interval is recommended. In dusty conditions or on unpaved roads, it needs changing sooner. The filter is a drop-in replacement for the original element. It requires no modification and no special tools: open the airbox, swap the element and close it up.
